A1: Building Blocks: Managing School Successfully
Presenters: Sandra Rangel, Fabiana Ferreira, & Emily Bosse
Purpose: The purpose of this presentation is to lessen the confusion that students go through while preparing and taking the classes at school. Useful tips that will help students plan their schedule successfully at UHV.
A2: Looking in from the Outside: A Beginner’s Guide to Successful Observations
Presenters: Rachel Olivier, Sarah Tucker, Rosaura Karina Laureano, Dan Bartolini, & Deanna Stegemiller
Purpose: The purpose of this discussion is to give pre-service teachers a set of guidelines and advice to making classroom observations a positive, productive, and promising experience. On addition to everyday assignment, student will be required to spend extra time out of their schedules to observe in different schools and grade levels. These guidelines will make walking into a strange and unfamiliar environment a breeze. Students will be provided with a brief look into one of the most important experience they will fulfill during their stay at the University of Houston Victoria – Cinco Ranch. First impressions are forever, so MAKE THEM COUNT!
A3: Brain Break
Presenter: Janet Robb
Purpose: To share information gathered from my own research, as well as techniques I have learned from my mentor teacher, to help elementary teachers determine when their students need a “brain break” before they can absorb more information. Suggestion and demonstration of several brain break ideas will be provided.
A4: More than Prepared
Presenters: Palmer Alderman, Michael Daniel, & Kim Mayberry
Purpose: Many education students enter the field with little or no experience. The purpose of this presentation is to explain the importance of student teaching in regards to developing management strategies, finding a good fit with a subject and school in which to teach.
Track B: Building an Outstanding Teaching Career
B1: Reconstructing Madeline Hunter (MH)
Presenters: Tammy Fernandez, Debbie Tolar, & Mark Moeller
Purpose: The purpose of this presentation is to discuss what aspects of the Madeline Hunter lesson plan format is applicable in the public school classroom.
B2: Building a Positive Environment with Students
Presenters: David Gleason, Mary Minks, William Shaw, & Devin Triolo
Purpose: The purpose of this presentation is to assist student teachers in developing a positive relationship and environment with their students. A positive environment is needed before optimal learning can take place.
B3: Got Stuff: A Resource Guide for Beginning Teachers
Presenters: Cindy Stevens & Mary Porter
Purpose: The purpose of this discussion is to assist beginning teachers with the daunting task of furnishing a brand new classroom. Additionally, beginning teachers need a collection of resources for lesson planning, classroom management, and a variety of other topics.
B4: Stress-Less! Tips for Student Teaching in an EC-4 Classroom
Presenters: Amber Karasek, Kristin Wolcott, & Stephanie Hager
Purpose: The purpose of this discussion is to provide support and practical advice for future student teacher applicants as they prepare to enter the last phase of their education. The presentation will include a highlight of various topics, difficulties, and successes that the participants may face before and during their placement.
