EC-4 Track (Room 133)

Title: A Closer Look of the Do’s and Don’ts of Observations
Presenters: Christi Ponce, Sandra Merlos, LaWanna Hubert, & Laura Rendon
Purpose: The purpose of this presentation is to inform and help future undergraduate teacher students prepare for successful observations. The group will guide the undergraduate students through the steps of setting up observations and what to look for once the student is accepted into the classroom as an observer. We will emphasize that first impressions are very important. By observing different classrooms, the pre-service teacher will get a firsthand look of each classroom and teachers’ different teaching styles and discipline techniques.

Title: Survivor 101
Presenters: Kristina Goana, Ashley Traugott, Anne Puls, & Carolina Tamez
Purpose: The purpose of this presentation is to inform future student teachers of the skills in surviving and managing their work load in a timely manner. We will also provide strategies and a course of action to create effective lesson plans. When entering the educational program it can be intense but throughout our combined experiences, we will guide and provide knowledge to help you have a smooth journey.

Title: The “Tidbits” of Student Teaching
Presenters: Sonya Arellano, Rhonda Brown, Toni DeLaTorre, & Mayra Gutierrez
Purpose: The purpose of this presentation is to point out the significance of everyday occurrences and how they affect the student teaching experience.

Title: Managing the Monsters
Presenters: Nikolle Chaney, Clare Dolen, Dana Jehlen, Megan Schmidt, & Tobias Whitman
Purpose: The intent of this session is to provide the opportunity for pre-service teachers to learn about classroom management that are currently being implemented in area classrooms. Five areas will be covered including the importance of routines, effective use of classroom space, how to create successful rules, helpful behavior management advice and tips on how to manage an inclusive classroom.

Middle School and Secondary Track (Room 135)

Title: The Keys to Successful Observations
Presenters: Rebecca Galyen, Tara Korbe, April Boroff, Amanda Kimbrew, & Suzanne Chamness
Purpose: The purpose of this presentation is for future undergraduate teachers to be aware of what is expected before, during, and after observations. We will discuss when and where to start, the purpose, what to take, information on hours and forms, dress code, and the do’s and don’ts of observing. Hopefully after attending our presentation observation hours will be less stressful and an enjoyable learning experience.

Title: How to Survive the Education Program
Presenters: Samantha Foisner, Mandy Rosas, Jennifer McGaughey, & Krystle Alvarado
Purpose: The purpose of this session is to inform students about how to keep up with course work, how to develop lesson plans, and how to prepare for and study for the PPR.

Title: Student Teaching Survival Guide
Presenters: Allison Luce, Dawn Prihoda, Angela Weeks, & Lori Sanford
Purpose: To prepare and inform incoming student teachers on what to expect and how to best be prepared for the final phase of their education. To dispel popular myths concerning this aspect of the degree process.

Title: Taking the Reigns!
Presenters: Leticia Esparza, Robin Rolon, Michelle Stuart, & Kinia Primo
Purpose: Because classroom management does not necessarily stay the same as student progress from elementary to high school, our goal is to share what we are learning by providing you with ideas and first-hand experiences of classroom management techniques that will benefit you as a new teacher.
